Information for applicants: https://www.karriere.uk-erlangen.de/en/job-application/notes-for-applicants-to-uniklinikum-erlangen/ Sounds exciting? This is us: The Department of Orofacial Orthopedics (Prof. Dr. Lina Gölz) of the Uniklinikum Erlangen in collaboration with the Department of Medicine 3 (Prof. Dr. Stefan Uderhardt) offer a PhD position in the joint project “Histocytometric and molecular assessment of the inflammatory osteoclastogenic niche in situ” within the Transregio TRR 369 “Degeneration of bone induced by inflammation - DIONE”.
In our clinics, we care for patients suffering from various chronic inflammatory diseases. Pathological inflammation is often accompanied by collateral tissue destruction, e.g. bone erosion, which can lead to structural disabilities or even complete loss of function of the affected tissue in patients. The aim of this project is to understand the mechanisms that lead to emergence of bone-resorbing osteoclasts in model systems for destructive autoimmune diseases, such as inflammatory arthritis and periodontitis. To this end, we will perform transcriptome profiling of immune and non-immune cells during disease progression and use state-of-the-art whole tissue optical imaging and novel AI-driven analysis techniques (3D histocytometry) to probe deep into the tissues and decipher the cellular and molecular processes behind pathological osteoclast formation in situ and in vivo as well as bone remodeling in general.
